What it is?

Pigmented lesions refer to skin spots and growths that are a darker or different shade to the majority of the individuals skin.

Symptoms

Pigmented lesions are noticeable on the skin surface as they are a darker shade to the natural skin tone. Skin lesions vary in shape size and colour shades common pigmented lesions include harmless freckles, moles, birthmarks, and “age spots.”

Causes

Pigmented lesions are caused by melanocyte cells in the skin. Melanocytes are the cells that produce melanin, the source that gives colour (pigment) to the skin.
