Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Info

Also known as laser resurfacing, laser skin rejuvenation is a type of photo-rejuvenation treatment that promotes a brighter, healthier and younger looking complexion. There are two different types of lasers – Ablative which is a more intense laser and removes thin layers of older, damaged skin – and Non-Ablative which stimulates the body’s natural function of producing collagen and reduces wrinkles, pigmentation, age spots, some scars, stretch marks, sun damage and uneven skin tone. It can also tighten and provide smoother skin.

Fractional lasers are different to other lasers in that they target a much smaller and more specific area. They do not damage surrounding areas and usually have a smaller recovery time.

It is essential to see an experienced and suitably trained doctor or practitioner for laser resurfacing. Depending on what results you want will affect which laser and what strength will suit you. A fully qualified practitioner will have minimise your risk of any side effects.

Procedure

The aesthetician projects a laser light onto the area/s being targeted. The energy it releases is absorbed by the skin, heating up the tired cells, and breaking them down into so that the body metabolises them.

You should be given Vaseline or soothing ointments to help calm and heal the skin after the treatment. You should not use makeup or other products on your skin until it has fully healed.

FAQs

Q. Are there any side effects?
A. Ablative lasers are more invasive, removing the top layer of your skin, and your skin will appear red after treatment. This can last up to several days and you may need time off work to recover. Less experienced practitioners may increase your risk of burns.

Non-Ablative lasers have minimal side effects but can include swelling, redness, itching, and/or lighter skin.

The Gold Standard Laser Treatment available at Brisbane Skin Clinic

July 4, 2020 We all know the power of lasers to improve skin. Though with such a wide variety of laser treatments available, it can be difficult to choose which is the best choice of laser treatment for you. There are many factors to be considered when choosing a skin resurfacing laser treatment. Firstly, are you currently in good health? What outcome are you hoping for? What is your main concern (pigment, texture, wrinkles, redness etc)? What is your skin type? What are your main concerns about laser treatments? And, importantly, how much downtime can you afford to invest to achieve the result you want? Ablative versus Non-Ablative Lasers Essentially lasers can be divided into two broad categories; ablative and non-ablative. Non-ablative laser treatments for skin are less invasive and require less downtime than ablative treatments. However, for dramatic, beautiful results, you may require more than one treatment of a non-ablative laser resurfacing, to have a comparable result of one ablative laser treatment. Some of the typical concerns that patients want to address include unsightly acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots, overly large pores and other visible signs of ageing that make you feel less confident and less attractive. These are some of […]

Best Treatments for Pigmentation

June 28, 2020 Of all the different products and laser treatments promising to treat your pigmentation, which one is best? Senior Dermal Clinician Rachael from Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia says that it depends on the type of pigment you have. She spoke to us about types of pigmentation, treatments and products. She also weighed in on why winter might be the best time to start evening out your skin tone and what are the best treatments for pigmentation. Types of Pigmentation There are different types of pigmentation, and Rachael says that it’s important for her to assess your skin and determine the type of pigmentation before recommending a pigmentation treatment plan. There is hormonal pigmentation such as melasma. This is common during pregnancy or while taking contraceptive medication. Rachael describes melasma as a blotted pigment that can appear in blocks on the upper lip, cheeks or forehead. It tends to be symmetrical, so if you have it on one cheek, it’ll normally appear on the other cheek as well, she says. Other types of pigmentation that Rachael describes include sun damage, caused by UV radiation. This appears as spotted pigment over the face and body. There are also solar lentigos which are larger […]

Is Sunscreen Toxic?

March 4, 2020 Experts have told us for years to “slip, slop, slap” with the most important step in sun protection being to apply sunscreen. However, there is current scientific debate that the ingredients found in many leading sunscreens leave dangerously high levels of toxic compounds in our bloodstream after extensive sunscreen use leading us to ask the question Is Sunscreen Toxic? This concern comes from a recent study conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia (CPCA) says there is definitely a need for more research regarding the effects of the application of sunscreen, they remind us to keep the FDA’s study in perspective. Dr Michael Molton, President of the CPCA, says in their press release, “The fact is, the human trial by the FDA was conducted under extreme laboratory conditions, with subjects applying sunscreen every two hours to 75% of the body for three days and not in the real ‘beach’ environment.” They also alert us to the fact that European studies performed in more ‘realistic’ circumstances do not support the FDA’s alarmist claims. Australia has highest rate of skin cancer in the world In a country like Australia where we have one […]

What’s the Best Laser for Beautiful Skin?

October 31, 2019 If you’re looking for skin rejuvenation, you can’t go past a good quality laser. One of the best lasers for youthful-looking skin on the market is the laseMD which is described as feeling being more like a super charged facial but with the results of a laser treatment. To understand why the laseMD gets such amazing results we looked at how and why it works, and what a treatment is like. What sets the laseMD apart from other lasers? laseMD is a thulium laser with a wavelength of 1927 nanometers – this is the sweet spot to generate heat which triggers a resurfacing effect without causing injury to the surface of the skin. Dr Robin Chok of Regenesis Cosmetic Surgery, SA says the reason why the laseMD technology is unique is because it’s a scanning laser that doesn’t fire out pulses all at the same time. “It’s like a dot matrix going side to side. But what it actually does is, because it’s such a small little dot and very, very fast, you don’t feel it. You don’t feel the dots are hitting you because they’re not firing at the same time so the heat is not there so you […]

Laser Skin Treatments – Results you can see straight away

November 15, 2018 There is a myriad of skin treatments on the market but one that patients still love for it’s instant and obvious results is laser. While laser got a bad rap for a little while there with reports of burning among other side effects, that generally only happens with unqualified practitioners using unapproved devices in dodgy clinics. Laser performed by qualified practitioners is one of the most effective ways to treat a variety of skin conditions and for skin rejuvenation and clinics such as FacePlus Medispa in Sydney say laser is one of their most popular non-surgical treatments. They chatted to us about what laser can treat and shared some of their patient before and afters. Laser Genesis Not all lasers are considered equal, and FacePlus Medispa use one of our favourites, the Laser Genesis by Cutera. One of the things that makes the Laser Genesis stand out is its ability to tailor the treatment for the patient. There are different settings to treat different skin conditions for different patients, and the highly trained practitioners at FacePlus Medispa have years of experience to be able to ensure you receive the right treatment for you. Example, Laser Genesis can treat a variety […]

ONDA – A new body contouring device helping to treat cellulite

September 26, 2018 The recent ASCD2018 Conference was jam packed with devices and non-aesthetic treatments but one I was really interested in was the new body contouring device by High Tech Laser, ONDA. ONDA is helping to treat cellulite, fat reduction and skin tightening all in the one device which is just incredible. Not only that, but you need less sessions than usually required for these type of treatments. This was a super interesting interview and afterwards I had a treatment myself. It was TOTALLY PAIN FREE! I’ll be posting before pics and in 12 weeks I’ll do an AFTER pic so you can see for yourself the results 🙂 Trish: Hello, viewers, I’m here today with Frederica, and Frederica is from Florence, in Italy, and she’s from Deka, and we’re going to talk about this amazing new device that’s just come onto the market, and it’s called the Onda, and you guys are gonna love this. It’s all about body contouring, cellulite, so it’s just right up my alley. Trish: So, welcome! Thank you for joining us today. Frederica: You’re welcome. Thank you. Trish: So tell me about this machine. What does it do? Frederica: This is a very new device. It […]

Skin Rejuvenation Results with the Infini and LaseMD – a podcast with Dr Steven Weiner

June 22, 2018 I love catching up with Dr Steven Weiner at the Non-Surgical Symposium every year. Dr Weiner has performed more Infini treatments than any other practitioner in the world – he and his patients absolutely love this treatment, but I wanted to talk to Dr Weiner about the results he’s been getting using both the Infini and the LaseMD combined, and the fact that he has patients from all over the world travelling to see him for him to treat their acne scarring. Trish: Hey listeners it’s Trish again from Transforming Bodies, and today I’m here with Dr. Steven Weiner. Dr. Weiner is actually heading up the Aesthetic Clinique, which is a medical clinic dedicated to cosmetic enhancements, with it’s flagship location in Redfish Village in Santa Rosa Beach Florida. Dr. Weiner’s done the most Infini procedures in the entire world. So today we’re gonna talk about the Infini and we’re also gonna talk about the LaseMD as well and as a combined modality. So welcome and thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me again. Dr. Weiner: Well thank you. This is about one year anniversary of our first interview. Trish: Oh I know. I know […]

Do you have a permanently red or flushed face? It could be Rosacea…

June 11, 2018 With it estimated that approximately 1 in 20 people have Rosacea, many of us have the condition without even realising it. A condition characterised by facial redness, especially around the nose, cheeks, chin and in between the brow, people with this condition are consistently red or flush easily. Modern day laser treatments can now effectively treat rosacea, and Medical Skin Clinic in Victoria had a chat to us about how laser for rosacea works and shared with us an amazing before and after photo to highlight how effective the treatment can be. What are the signs you might have Rosacea Lauren from Medical Skin Clinic says there are many signs you might have Rosacea. These include: Facial redness Burning/stinging on the face Sensitive skin Easily flushed Broken facial capillaries Acne like pustules on the face Bloodshot or watery eyes Red, tender pimples Thickened skin Bulbous nose However, just because you have one or two of these symptoms, does not necessarily mean you have Rosacea. If you are not sure you should definitely arrange to see a skin specialist. Lauren agrees. She says, “Untreated Rosacea tends to worsen over time and can be a progressive disease. At Medical Skin Clinic we […]

Treat a range of Skin Issues with IPL and Laser

May 29, 2018 As we move into the cooler weather, it’s a great time to start thinking about treating any skin conditions such as rosacea, veins, pigmentation, sun damage and a range of other skin issues with laser and IPL, as your exposure to the sun is minimised and you will get the best results. Dr Graham Sellars, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon from The San Clinic in Wahroonga, Sydney, says winter is the most popular time of the year for laser and IPL treatments and we chatted with Nurse Michelle from his clinic about the skin issues they can treat with laser and IPL. Both laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments are able to treat similar skin issues including: Sun damage Acne Pigmentation Rosacea Ageing spots Benign lesions eg moles Blemishes Freckles Fine lines and wrinkles Broken capillaries The difference between IPL and laser IPL uses specific wavelengths of light that penetrate the skin at varying depths to target different skin issues. The IPL is attracted to the chromophores which are the pigments eg brown in pigmentation and red from the haemoglobin in the capillaries of the skin. The light targets and breaks down the skin imperfections allowing the body to remove […]

What is the LaseMD and how can it help your skin?

May 4, 2018 Trish: Hey, podcasters. Well, I’m here today. I’m at COSMEDICON 2018, and I’m talking with Professor Glen Calderhead, who is from Clinique L Dermatology in South Korea, and they are all part of the Lutronic group of devices, if you like, for want of a better word. And today, the first chat we’re going to have is we’re going to be talking about the LaseMD device. So it’s said that your skin is only really as good as the products that you use on it. And LaseMD is basically a cosmeceutical delivery system that delivers specially formulated cosmeceuticals into your skin at a deeper level. So can you tell us how it does it, and how does it work, please? Glen Calderhead: Yes, certainly. It’s based on a type of laser called the thulium laser, which has a wavelength that has kind of intermediate absorption in water. It’s important to have intermediate absorption because if we have too little absorption, then it doesn’t break the skin barrier function. If we have too much absorption in water, like the carbon dioxide or the erbium YAG lasers, they ablate tissue completely down through the epidermis into the dermis. Of course, they can […]

Reveal Your Natural Beauty – and get rid of make-up!

April 26, 2018 Wouldn’t it be amazing if we woke up and didn’t feel like we had to spend half an hour or more in front of the mirror covering our blemishes, ageing spots, pigmentation and other skin imperfections so we could face the world? There’s a really wonderful laser on the market used by all the celebs, social media darlings and anyone who invests in their beauty, that helps them to look their best even when they first roll out of bed in the morning or aren’t wearing any makeup. It’s called PICO Genesis, and it’s the secret many ladies (and men!) have behind their naturally radiant, glowing and beautiful skin. What is PICO Genesis? The PICO Genesis a 2-in-1 laser that uses picosecond pulses (one trillionth of a second long – that’s super short energy pulses) making it one of the most impressive lasers available on the market. It also means less downtime than other comparable lasers and the results are also said to be superior. But what does all that mean? What does it actually do for your skin? PICO Genesis uses this harnessed laser energy to shatter or break up any unwanted pigmentation including blemishes and age spots, to […]

Is this a no laser, no pain laser?? Dr Robin Chok explains the new LaseMD with phenomenal results… I want it!!

March 27, 2018 Trish: Hello everyone out there in podcast world! Now we’ve got a really interesting podcast organised for you today. I’ll be speaking with Dr Robin Chok, who’s a cosmetic practitioner based in Adelaide and Dr Chok’s clinic is called Regenesis Cosmetic Surgery. Now I’ve been following Dr Chok for a lot, a lot of years, ’cause Dr Chok was actually the first practitioner that I ever had injectables with and my cousin introduced me to him and I was so happy that I met him and of course I’ve moved from where I lived since then. Sometimes I pop down, all the way from Byron Bay to visit Dr Chok to do injectables for me, so I’ve watched his practise grow over the years, so I’m really, really excited to have him here today. Dr Chok is a leader in the field in the sense that he likes to take on new technologies when he hears about them today. We’ve got the opportunity to talk to Dr Chok about the LaseMD which. We come across devices all the time, but sometimes there’s one that kind of, you know, sparks a bit of interest, more than others and LaseMD is definitely […]

The PICOPLUS- The Latest Laser from Advanced Cosmeceuticals

November 21, 2017 Advanced Cosmeceuticals is the distributor of Lutronic devices in Australia and have some of the most advanced and effective non-surgical treatments on the market, including EnCurve, LaseMD and now the PICOPLUS. I caught up with Catherine Biedermann from Advanced Cosmeceuticals at the 40th Annual ASAPS Conference to get the latest on this super effective laser. What is the PICOPLUS? Catherine B: The PICOPLUS is the latest device from Lutronic and it is an Nd:YAG device that works with picoseconds rather than nanoseconds. What was the process like behind creating the PICOPLUS? How much research went into it? Lutronic, they’d launched the device late last year and we did bring one out and had it installed and we had a physician using it. We did have a few hiccups with it, so we decided to stop promoting it until Lutronic had everything sorted out. We’ve probably learnt a bit from some of the other manufacturers or distributors in that sometimes, it’s better to give a new device, a new technology a little bit longer so they can work, sort out all the problems that can potentially happen. We had it now in a clinic for 10 months, very successful introduction. Dermatologist […]

Dr Steven Weiner on the LaseMD for skin repair and rejuvenation

July 25, 2017 I caught up with Dr Steven Weiner at the Non-Surgical Symposium 2017 on the Gold Coast last month about the LaseMD for skin repair and rejuvenation. Listen to the podcast, watch the video or read below to find out more. Trish: I’m here again today with Dr. Steven Weiner, who is a facial plastic surgeon and he’s based in Florida in the U.S. We’re going to talk about the LaseMD, which is a new device, which is just been released on the market in Australia, hasn’t it? Dr. Weiner: And in the U.S. as well. Trish: And in the U.S. So it’s a world first. It’s basically for pores, for pigmentation … Tell us what it’s about. I’m quite excited by this product because it’s… apart from the fact that it looks good. Dr. Weiner: This is a resurfacing laser. It’s a 1927 wavelength. You roll it over the skin and it goes very superficially. It improves textures, pores, pigmentation. It gives a general resurfacing of the skin. Like an aggressive peel. Trish: For someone like me, who’s got quite large pores, this is going to be really effective? Dr. Weiner: Yes, that’s true. It’s a very gentle laser. Most […]

Pastelle

January 19, 2015 There are so many lasers on the market it is hard to keep up with which one is the best and which machine does what. Well today I wanted to introduce you to the Pastelle Q Switch Nd:LYAG laser. After learning a little bit about the incredible technology behind this laser… you hopefully wont be so confused anymore. The Pastelle is designed specifically for the general treatment of pigmentation, toning, acne, acne scarring, tattoo removal and many more procedures as well as performing soft laser peel and FR peel for treating wrinkles and enlarged pores. The Pastelle Laser is so versatile in treatments because it comes with three major modes and wavelengths; 1064nm, 532nm and an additional Free Running Mode. The Free Running mode is a rapid free flow laser mode, which is great for the treatment of anti-aging signs such as wrinkles, pore size and whitening. The 1064nm laser treats pigmented lesions in the dermal layer – this includes treatments such as all colour tattoo removal and melisma. Whilst the 532nm laser works in shorter wavelengths and its high melanin absorption characteristics enables it to treat pigmented lesions in the epidermal such as freckles and age spots. Now because […]
