Venus Velocity laser hair removal

Venus Velocity provides effective, quick and comfortable laser hair removal for the face and body.

The Venus Velocity uses a diode laser to target hair follicles in the anagen (growth phase of the hair cycle).

Once the laser’s energy reaches a hair it is absorbed by the melanin that surrounds it. This destroys the follicle so that the hair cannot grow anymore but doesn’t harm the skin tissue surrounding it.

Why

A Venus Velocity laser hair removal treatment is ideal for anyone who want to permanently reduce unwanted hair, including ‘fuzz’, on their face or body.

Procedure

During a Venus Velocity hair removal treatment, your treatment provider will move the applicator over the targeted areas.

Once the treatment starts, you’ll feel some heat in the area, but this will only last a short time thanks to the real-time cooling system that minimise discomfort.

If your treatment provider uses ‘Pulse’ mode, which delivers higher energy at a lower repetition rate, each pulse will feel like a light snap of an elastic band against your skin.

If they use ‘Slide’ mode, which delivers a high repetition rate of short pulses, it will feel like a series of light snaps as the technician glides the applicator continuously across the treatment area.

If the treatment feels too uncomfortable, your provider can adjust the settings.

Risks & Complications

The Venus Velocity treatment is safe for all skin types but for safety reasons, you may not be able to get this treatment if you have:

  • Previous problems with laser therapy
  • A history of keloid scarring
  • Active infection or history of herpes simplex in the treatment area
  • Used depilatories or other hair removal treatments, such as waxing, plucking, or electrolysis, within 6 weeks prior to treatment
  • Hypersensitivity to hydroquinone or other bleaching agents
  • Used oral Accutane within 6 weeks prior to treatment

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Is a Venus Velocity treatment painful?
A. The Venus Velocity applicator has a built-in cooling feature to make your hair removal treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort when treating a more sensitive area, like the bikini line.

If you find the treatment too uncomfortable at any time, let your treatment provider know and they can adjust the settings accordingly.

Q. How long does a Venus Velocity treatment last?
A. It depends on what area you’re treating (an upper lip will be much faster than both legs) but most treatments take 10-30 minutes.

Q. How many Venus Velocity treatments will I need to see results?
A. Most patients receive 4-6 treatments per area with treatments performed 4-8 weeks apart.

The exact number of treatments needed vary as they depend on individuals’ skin type, hair colour and texture, and the area being treated.

Venus Velocity targets the hair follicle in the anagen (growth phase of the hair cycle). About 30 percent of hair is in this phase at any given time, which is why you need multiple treatments.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, patients can expect a 10-25 percent reduction in current hair growth per laser hair removal treatment session.

Q. Can I still get a Venus Velocity treatment done if I have darker skin?
A. Venus Velocity hair removal treatments can be done on darker skin tones, even tanned skin, but using different settings, as there is a higher risk of discolouration (since darker skin has more pigment in it).

Your treatment provider will perform a test spot and wait between 15 minutes to 48 hours, depending on your skin tone, to assess your reaction to the laser and determine the best treatment parameters for your skin type.

Q. How will I look/feel straight after a Venus Velocity treatment?
A. You may feel like you have a slight sunburn around the treatment area, but this should go away after 1-2 days.

Some patients may also experience what appears to be a rash accompanied by some mild itching. The redness and itching will also subside over a few days.

Q. Is there any downtime?
A. No. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment.

Q. How long will the results last?
A. It depends on how your hair grows. Some people may see longer-lasting hair removal, while others who see sporadic hair growth in the area may need a touch-up treatment to maintain the results.
