At many of the non-surgical conferences this year we’ve seen the NeoGen EVO skin rejuvenation treatment and clinics all over Australia are starting to rave over this device. We also spoke to a patient who’d had the treatment earlier this year who says she’ll definitely be having it again. We caught up with Joanna Green from Battery Point Medical Skin in Hobart, Tasmania about why this is her stand-out treatment of the year and why her patients are loving it. Here’s our Q&A with her, and Jo also shared the video she took of her actually having the treatment. It’s a great insight into what happens during the treatment so you know what to expect. Jo says she’s been dealing with her pigmentation for years with different non-surgical treatments and topical creams and ointments but never had results like this.
PSH: What is the NeoGen and how does it work?
Jo: NEOGEN™ EVO converts nitrogen gas into plasma energy, the fourth state of matter. The plasma emerges from the hand piece in controlled pulses and rapid heating of tissue occurs as it gives up its unique thermal energy to tissue.
Nitrogen Plasma technology delivers controlled heating to the skin architecture stimulating a significant physiological response, without creating an open wound. Unlike ablative technologies, there is no epidermal vaporisation or charring caused at the time of treatment.

PSH: What is it able to treat? Eg. does it get rid of wrinkles, pigmentation?
Jo: There are a range of skin issues it can treat and address including:
PSH: Is it suitable for all skin types/all patients?
Jo: Yes all range of skin types and skin locations can be safely, even around the eyes as it’s not laser… so eyelid/blepharoplasty can be performed without surgery.
PSH: Is the treatment painful, and is the recovery painful? If yes, how is it managed?
Jo: There is mild discomfort only even with the higher energy treatment. Check out my video of me having the treatment to see how I handle it!
No open wounds – the treated photodamaged layers undergo a controlled thermal modification, whilst remaining intact. This creates a natural dressing to provide protection and speed up healing. At high energies the epidermis sheds, but only after a new, healthier skin architecture is formed beneath. Peeling can be managed with simple Vaseline if required. With high energy treatment we advise 10 days of recovery..with low energy no downtime is required.
PSH: You’ve had the treatment yourself – what results did you get? What results have you been getting for your patients?
Jo: We have some amazing results… it’s so exciting to offer something truly innovative. My décolletage pigmentation/wrinkles have been stubborn to treat previously… but after 2 weeks after high energy the results are impressive. We also have before and after pics of my colleagues eyes… achieving an amazing lift and reduction in pigmentation. One of my clients of Asian descent with acne scarring and melasma in her forties posted that she was ‘walking around without wearing make up for the first time in her adult life just 10 days after a full facial high energy treatment.
